Inhibiting bacteria for a long period is referred to as Kohkin.
The process is distinguished from pasteurization and eradication, which temporarily kills and eliminates bacteria.

What are treated Kohkin products?

Products treated to prevent the proliferation of surface bacteria are referred to as treated Kohkin products.
The Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) stipulate that a product has antimicrobial effects when the proportion of bacteria on the surface of the product is 1/100 or less (antimicrobial activity value is 2 or more) of that on the surface of a non-treated product.

Merits of use of treated Kohkin products

The adverse effects of bacteria on humans are when the bacteria proliferate in excess of a certain amount. Since Kohkin products can inhibit the proliferation of bacteria, the effects on humans can be minimized.

Proper use of treated Kohkin products

Treated Kohkin products must be clean

The idea that treated Kohkin products permit a slightly dirty state because bacteria have not proliferated is wrong. If the surface is covered with contaminants, antimicrobial effects are not fully activated. Therefore, one must always keep surfaces clean even for treated Kohkin products.

Treated Kohkin products coexist/co-prosper with indigenous bacteria

Treated Kohkin products inhibit the proliferation of bacteria on the surface but do not kill other bacteria. Therefore, the products have no effect on the indigenous bacteria on the skin or on natural microorganisms.
