Notes on handling about SIAA brand mark in JIS R 1702:2006, "Test method for antibacterial activity of photocatalytic products under photoirradiation and efficacy Notes on handling about SIAA brand mark in JIS R 1702:2006, "Test method for antibacterial activity of photocatalytic products under photoirradiation and efficacy (Summary) SIAA, one of pioneer for standardizing antibacterial industry announces own regulation for taking compatibility with newly comer JIS R 1702, standard for evaluating photocatalytic antibacterial effect. SIAA responds first to take advantage of our new choice to antibacterial industry and consumers with minimum regulatory notes which supplies undocumented matters* in JIS R 1702. Points - Self-imposed registration and SIAA logo become applicable on products satisfy our qualification grade for JIS R 1702.
- The provisional qualification grade** is determined as follows:
- ΔR ≥ 2.0
- In case of ΔR < 2.0, RL≥ 2.0 and ΔR/RL ≥ 0.5
where, - RL: Overall antibacterial efficacy under UV-irradiation(L)
- BL: Average of the number of viable bacteria, cells recovered from the untreated test specimens after 8h UV-irradiation
- CL: Average of the number of viable bacteria, cells recovered from the treated test specimens after 8h UV-irradiation
- ΔR: Photocatalytic antibacterial efficacy
- BD: Average of the number of viable bacteria, cells recovered from the untreated test specimens after 8h darkbox exposure
- CD: Average of the number of viable bacteria, cells recovered from the treated test specimens after 8h darkbox exposure
- Our conventional examination method for photocatalytic antibacterial effect is still valid and official SIAA regulation will be updated after verification study for applicability of and compatibility with R 1702 is completed.

Note that SIAA spent maximum effort for this direction to be introduced early as possible to prevent scorched earth operation by unexpected manufacturer. This is important experience from making long-term handling of classic standard JIS Z2801 successful. - * JIS R 1702 does not define passing grade but examination method.
- ** This constraint is continuously under discussion to consider unknown combination of antibacterial agents; supposed to be greater in upcoming research.
FYI- JIS ... Japanese Industrial Standard
